The library
| The main library building is located at Fokuskvartalet, a building complex that also houses the town hall and cinema. The library collection is housed among four floors. In addition, there are two branch libraries in the city: Kroken, Tromsdalen, and district libraries at Brensholmen, Sjursnes and Lakselvbukt.
Opening Hours Opening hours, winter season (October - March): Opening hours, summer season* (April - October): Opening hours at Tromsdalen and Kroken: In the summer season the branch libraries are partly closed. Services We lend out books, music (CD), films (DVD and VHS), language courses, and sound books on CDs and cassettes. We offer regional, national and international newspapers. These must be read while in the library. Periodicals and magazines may be found on the first floor. Older issues can be borrowed. Meeting rooms for smaller groups (up to 4 persons) may be reserved at the main library for specific hours or a full day. Apply at the main desk for this. An open reading hall is located on the top floor gallery. Some books may only be borrowed for one week; however, a regular library loan is for 30 days. Exception on films: 7 days. Our Computers The library offers personal computers for public use. Twenty-seven computers are available for free use in the library, some without reservations needed, and some that do require reservation. Please make a reservation on the same day or for the following day. Greater details concerning computer usage and installed software are available on the computer table and monitors. We also offer wireless connection for portable computers at the main library. If using your own computer, access will be granted for a specific time. Ask for user name and password at the main desk. IDs are required. On each floor, specific computers are restricted to searches in our local database. These machines are not connected to the Internet. |

Full content newspapers online
The library offer access to more than 600 newspaper worldwide. These papers are only available at our computer terminals placed by the newspaper shelves by the entrance at the main library. These terminals are just for reading the papers, as all other internett access are cut off.
This service offer search through all articles with your own words, and searches through articles based on day, week or month. Papers are also chosen by land, language or alphabetic order. The menu can be set to german, russian or french language as an anternative to english.
A very user friendly navigation menu makes it easy reading the papers by enlarging, move or turn pages. Also easy to cut out an article and send it to printout if it's desired.
